France 0-2 Mexico
Errrrrrrr what's that smell? Yes it's the French National football team and you get a whiff of it all the way from South Africa. I think that it's safe to say that barring a minor (OK major) miracle next week that France is going home from this World Cup. They were dreadful - so dreadful in fact, that there is a danger that this Mexican team won't get the credit that it deserves from this game. They were adventurous and played with no little skill and thoroughly deserved their 2-0 win which came through goals from two substitutes Javier Hernandez and (from the penalty spot) Cuauhtemoc Blanco - great run up from him by the way.
As things stand in the group now, both Mexico and Uruguay have 4 points from two games with France and South Africa stranded on 1 point each. The knowledge that a draw will be good enough for both of them to progress will be there at the back of the minds of the Latin Americans. However, what may stand France or South Africa in good stead is the fact that the runners up in this group are likely to meet Argentina in the Round of16. Not an appealing prospect.
