South Africa 0-3 Uruguay

Naivety? Lack of nouse? Or just plain rubbish? South Africa were well and truly beaten here - the fact that they lost goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune could be used more unscrupulous people to disguise the fact that they stank the place out, but then that would be stretching a very thin point on their part. Uruguay really did know far too much for the hosts they had all the tricks, including the fantastic dive (yes there was contact, but really) from Luis Suarez just before Khune's dismissal. That said, Diego Forlan proved that he is a class act, especially well demonstrated by the cool head he kept to ram the ball home past substitute 'keeper Moneeb Josephs.

Their next game is against France - a win is essential, but unlikely and that's a shame for the competition. Every World Cup needs its hosts to go as far as possible, but for the first time ever it's highly probable that they'll go out in the first stage and that's a real shame.
