England 1-0 Slovenia

Don't be alarmed by the closeness of the final score. I think that England were by far the better team in this game and deserved to win by at least 3 goals. As it was that only goal was scored by Jermain Defoe on 23 minutes as he managed to get himself in front of the defender to poke home a great right wing cross from James Milner. Shortly afterwards captain Steve Gerrard was unlucky not / should have scored to make it 2-0. In the second half Wayne Rooney's goal bound effort was nudged onto the post by the Slovenian 'keeper.

Of course Slovenia had chances too, but they weren't anywhere near as clean cut as those two for England. In truth, the state of David James's penalty area in the second half was more worthy of concern than the actual attacking threat carried by Slovenia.  However, it was probably England's dire performance against Algeria which puts them into second place in the group and a Round of 16 tie against Germany. There's no need bleating on about that, if you're in it to win it than at some stage teams like Germany will cross your path.  And in any case, I think it's our turn to beat them again isn't it?
