Cameroon 0-1 Japan
Confession first - I didn't actually see this game. However, judging by some national newspaper reports on games that I've been at sometimes their hacks don't watch all the games either. So there. Anyroad up, Messrs Lawrenson and colleague told me when I did managed to tune in right at the end of the game that Cameroon had been poor. Japan had managed to record their first ever win in a World Cup Finals in a country other than their own and Cameroon had suffered their first ever first match defeat in a World Cup Finals.
OK, so now that's sorted, cue all the poor puns based upon the name of Japan's goal scorer, one Keisuke Honda. I've seen the highlights and can I say that I'm impressed at the way he accelerated in to the penalty area to steer home Daisuke Matsui's right wing cross. He clearly has a good engine that lad and there was no overtaking him as he revved up to slot home. Anyway, enough of this engine-ering of puns, the cold facts are that Japan join the Dutch at the top of the group on 3 points each.
