Spain 2-0 Honduras

David Villa scored both of Spain's goals in this comfortable 2-0 victory which sees the European Champions leapfrog their first match conquerors Switzerland into second place on goal difference. Truth is Spain could have had quite a few more, noneless than Villa who screwed his penalty opportunity for a hat-trick wide of the post with an hour gone. Fernando Torres was off target again, but at least was getting in the right places to miss.

There was more disciplinary controversy as Villa perhaps should have walked after aiming a 42nd minute slap at Emilio Izaguirre. If only he hadn't claimed it was an elbow then perhaps referee Yuichi Nishimura would have been more impressed?!  Still at least Spain are now up and running in WC2010 - their last group game against Chile becomes very interesting. Chile still top the group, but a Spanish victory (which is essential given that the Swiss play Honduras) may leave Chile sweating on goal difference - as it stands they are +2 versus Switzerland's zero.  Two 1-0 wins for the European sides will lock Chile and Switzerland on the same goal difference...
