Spain 2-1 Chile

This was all in all a good game.  Slightly spoiled by the referee's sending off of Estrada for his second yellow after an accidental trip on Fernando Torres. Chile had started very brightly, but then this was them merely continuing their own particular theme of the World Cup so far. Spain, needing to win to guarantee their place (they didn't know that Switzerland would be so poor against Honduras) were being out fought and outplayed.  But out of nothing, on 24 minutes, Spain took the lead.

A long ball down the left intended for Torres was partly cleared by 'keeper Bravo - but only as far as David Villa who slotted, coolly, from a long long way out. That knocked the Chileans out of their stride and 13 minutes later a fantastic move saw Ineista produce a brilliant side foot finish from the edge of the penatly area. It was infact, Iniesta who had started the move winning the ball in midfield, playing a one-two with Torres and then feeding Villa on the left who in turn played it back into his path for him to score.  It was in the build up that Estrada 'committed' the foul that was to see him leave the pitch. It was innocuous enough, but the ref though it merited his second yellow, so off he went.

After half time, it took Chile just 2 minutes for Rodrigo Millar to half the deficit and then Spain had several chances to score again to restore their lead, but due to some good defensive play were unable to take advantage.  With about 20 minutes left the game fizzled out as, buoyed by the news from Bloemfontein, both teams settled for what they had - i.e. a place in the Round of 16.  Spain will play Portugal and Chile will / should have no fear against Brazil.
